The Cerulean Amp Overdrive is an updated version of the Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal, in production from 1991 to 1999. A legend in its own right, it was also the source circuit for a number of expensive boutique pedals, most notably the Analogman King of Tone, which is two Bluesbreakers in the same box with a few modifications.

In 1995, Marshall moved production from England to Korea, and around this time they made some tweaks to the circuit, increasing the gain and reducing the bass. The Cerulean project has a switch to go between both modes so you can hear the differences. It also borrows the expanded clipping options from the King of Tone, allowing you to select either soft clipping (stock), hard clipping, or no clipping (boost mode).

Cerulean Amp Overdrive / Marshall Bluesbreaker 

The Quartz Optical Compressor is based on the Diamond CPR-1 Compressor and BCP-1 Bass Compressor, two vintage-inspired optical compressor pedals that share the same overall schematic.

The original Diamond Compressor was released in 2005. Like other optical compressors, it used an optocoupler for dynamic gain reduction. But the tone control was something never seen before in a pedal: an adaptation of the “Tilt” control from the Quad Model 34 hi-fi preamps of the 1980s, which is similar in usage to the bass/treble pivot of the Big Muff tone control, but refined so that it has a truly flat frequency response in the middle.

The Quartz is an adaptation of the original Diamond circuits that allows either the standard or bass version to be built. Our version also adds a third position to the frequency selector, which is a feature in the 2023 compact pedals but not the originals.

Azure Analog Chorus

The Lumin project is a workalike of the BBE® Sonic Stomp / Sonic Maximizer. It’s based on work done by Bajaman (documented on FSB)[1] and Sebastian Montti (stm) on DIYStompboxes in recreating the functionality of BBE’s proprietary NJM2150AD chip.[2]
The BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer rack unit first appeared on the scene in the late 1980s and quickly achieved legendary status among sound engineers for the way it imparted clarity on the signal—often described as sounding like a blanket was lifted off the speaker cabinet. The circuit is said to create “frequency-dependent time alignment” so that the audio frequencies hit the speaker in a more optimal way. Many professional audio setups even outside the music industry utilize the “BBE process” to enhance sound quality.
