The BSM VX-T model is based on the british Vox Treble & Bass booster, made in the late 60's and used by many british bands at this time. Here is an almost identical copy of the second issue of this Vox unit, but with increased gain and a slightly modified tone network, pronouncing the mid frequencies and making the VX-T the perfect treble-midrange booster. So the sound of the VX-T is placed in between the VX-C Classic Treble&Bass booster and the RMG Treble Booster. The VX-C Classic offers a more vintage orientaded tone control with some good low end, while the RMG adds more twang and spank to the tone. The VX-T model includes a tone control which allows an extraordinary amount of versatility.

VX-T Treble/Mid Booster

Around 1960 the British Gary Hurst developed the first known distortion unit for electric guitar, which was available only as a custom order. So only a few were built and sold. Later, in 1965, Gary Hurst joined the team of Sola Sound, which was based in London. As an OEM-product, Sola Sound built Hurst's circuit, slightly modified and in a large production number, now called Tone Bender (Mk1.5) for the fellow British company Vox. Once developed and done, Sola Sound offered a minor number of the Tone Bender circuit under their own flag and brand. In fall 1966 Arbiter, the giant in the British music business, introduced a Fuzz unit under the name Fuzz Face, which looked unique, but was actually just a modification of the Vox/Sola Sound (Mk1.5). The Arbiter Fuzz Face generated a similar distortion sound like the Tone Bender (Mk1.5), but with more bass.

In November 1973, right before the start of the "Burn" tour, Ritchie Blackmore changed his live setup. First and foremost, he wanted to play live with an echo effect and made the AIWA TP-1011 reel-to-reel tape recorder his first choice. This unit offered the typical 1/3 seconds echo repeat, perfectly matching Blackmore's natural beat. Additionally, Blackmore used the integrated microphone pre-amp as a booster, and so his beloved Hornby-Skewes trebleboosters, he used for many years, were no longer needed and sent into retirement. The necessary trebleboost function (from a technical point of view a "highpass" function), was built into his heavily modified Marshall Major amp.

RPA California II Treble Booster

The BSM HS model is based on the short-lived early edition British HORNBY-SKEWES unit produced, as used by Ritchie Blackmore, the brilliant and impulsive guitarist of Deep Purple. The unit produces a powerful and biting sound that was used to help create the epochal masterpieces e.g. "Deep Purple In Rock" and "Fireball". The long yearned for new edition, now issued under the name HS from BSM, includes the same germanium transistors as the 1965 version. The HS-Custom model includes a volume control (like Blackmore's modification).

HS-Custom Treble Booster

The RPA Major is the answer to many customer calls, demanding the hard, agressive Ritchie Blackmore stage sound of the 70's, without the need to get their amp heavily modified. The RPA Major offers a lot more gain compared to the stock RPA model with tons of crunch and a higher level of agressivity ... something that fits the modern Metal scene as well. With the level control turned up to the max, the RPA Major delivers an output level of 8 volts (!!!), which can kill most modulation stompboxes with electronical CMOS switching like delay, chorus etc. that are connected after the RPA Major in the signal chain. So please only use the RPA Major with full level directly into your tube amp. If you want to connect some stompboxes after the RPA Major, reduce the level to 50% to be on the safe side.
