Spoiled by the various tube driven echo units we have around the shop, we wanted the Montavillian Echo to sound and feel just as BIG! So we went all out on the audio path on this thing… We took painstaking efforts to make the dry signal sound and feel better when on than with the pedal bypassed. The Montavillian Echo utilizes an obsolete delay processing IC, however, rather than slavishly following the path of that chip’s forebears, we cracked the books and ventured out on our own, using our ears to guide us, and what we achieved is a fantastic sounding delay, with a slew of sounds in a small, easy to use footprint. It has great headroom and stacking abilities, which are often shortcomings of echo pedals. We’ve run the Montavillian into all of our amps clean and cranked (Hiwatt, AC30, 5E3, Super Reverb, Blues Jr. etc.) we’ve also stacked it before our dirt pedals. We’ve even slammed it with numerous fuzzes and overdrives. The Montavillian handles it all with no effort. Should you need even more headroom, the Montavillian can be run at 18V.

It forms the core of your guitar sound which you can enhance and embellish by adding boosters, fuzzes, filters, and other overdrives in front of it.

Dirty Little Secret

The Semaphore Tremolo Delivers classic tremolo sounds from the smooth and buttery coaxing of vintage "harmonic vibrato" to more modern aggressive hard chop "repeat percussion". There are of course plenty of nontraditional trem-based sounds too - pulses, swells, blips, & surf amplitude modulation can all be found inside. It wouldn’t be a Catalinbread pedal if it didn’t do some weird stuff too, right?

Exact EP-3 circuitry, from the 22 volt power rail, to the JFET preamp (later spec), to the mixer stage, to the high gain silicon transistor based record and playback amplifiers, to the feedback loop. All circuitry is faithfully reproduced and fine-tuned from the original EP-3 specifications. The only thing missing are the record and playback heads, with a 24-bit high-fidelity digital delay line taking the place of the tape.

All-discrete, through-hole construction with orange drop 225P capacitors, carbon composition resistors, germanium diodes, and other premium parts.
