Catalinbread presents the evolution of the Ottava Magus, with the Ottava Magus II. Upgraded from the former bantam series, the new Ottava Magus II has all the benefits of the previous version, but the circuit has been revamped, retuned, and has an added Saturation control that offers the ability of subtle ‘flutey' high octave tones or crazier full-on ring mod sounds, the Intensity control covers a wide range from clean to barking. The input sensitivity is much more forgiving than typical octaves, so you can actually get a lot of different flavors just by adjusting the controls on your guitar. Back off your guitar volume for more subtle parts and still have the octave clear and present with the natural decays intact. Play on your bridge pickup down low on the neck for piano-like overtones on your bass strings - try that with a conventional octave pedal!

There's tons of output on tap to pummel your preamp or another dirt box into sonic submission as well.

Der Catalinbread CSIDMAN entstammt dem Gedanken, dass technische Entwicklungen nur selten direkt vom Erkennen eines Problems zu dessen endgültiger Lösung führen. In der Regel passiert das in vielen Zwischenschritten, von denen viele zu ihrer Zeit als Nonplusultra gelten, bis sie der Fortschritt wieder überholt. Die Schallplatte beispielsweise hat trotz ihrer Unzulänglichkeiten der Musik im letzten Jahrhundert zum wirtschaftlichen Erfolg verholfen. Und mit der Erfindung des Magnetbandes war es möglich, sie jederzeit und relativ einfach aufzunehmen – oder zum Beispiel in Echogeräten für den entsprechenden Effekt zu sorgen. Und genau dort setzt Catalinbread an: So wie die Schallplatte für viele immer noch als das natürlichste und authentischste Medium gilt, so schwören auch nicht wenige von uns heute noch bei ihren Aufnahmen auf die alten Bandechos, und das trotz, oder gerade wegen derer Unzulänglichkeiten. Warum also nicht ein Effektgerät kreieren, das unter anderem die Artefakte reproduziert, für die das Nachfolgemedium der Schallplatte, die CD, gefürchtet war?

Yes, it's digital. Did I stutter? What are the artifacts of antiquated technologies that have merit in a musical context? Why can't we create a pedal that intentionally embraces technological limitations that musicians haven't widely utilized?
I see technology as the optimistic push through the limitations of existing paradigms: limitations in materials, processes, functionality, cost, and foresight. With each spearhead of technology, the limitations of incumbents are resolved. All too often, a slew of new issues are introduced that the marketplace is willing to overlook, at least for a short period of time. It isn’t too long before the marketplace demands better, and is willing to abandon the past and pay for the next-generation solution.

The Dirty Little Secret Deluxe represents the next logical step in Marshall Plexi emulation, reaching beyond the preamp circuit and adding the rest of the amp for an extremely authentic take on everything inside that chassis. Our original DLS circuit has been tweaked and upgraded throughout, now featuring a phase inverter, power amp sim and output transformer as well as some new features and the most requested modifications for the original. One such addition is a toggle switch on the outside to select between Super Lead and Super Bass modes, and we’ve also externalized the Presence knob to easily dial in your preferred Marshall flavor.
 Also added is a piece of the Dirty Little Secret—a single preamp tube simulator—as a built-in boost circuit that can be used independently of the main circuit. You can run the boost and DLS in any order you like; put the boost before the DLS for a high-powered saturated tone or after to pummel the front end of your amp. A new tightness knob lets you shave off the sub-bass for a little extra clarity or completely attenuate the low end for some cool thrash metal tones. A Line Out jack gives you a dedicated +10dB output that you can use with a mixer or DAW, and you can use both outputs simultaneously. Between the Boost, order selector and the external Super Lead/Super Bass modes, the Dirty Little Secret Deluxe is engineered to be a total performance tool that does the line justice.

Dirty Little Secret Deluxe

This unit is the Maestro Echoplex EP-3. While some guitarists made great use of its echo effect, others dragged one to every gig just for its magical preamp. This preamp circuit was wired always-on, and so even those using it as an echo effect received significant tonal enhancements from the preamp circuit as well. Everyone from Eddie Van Halen to East Bay Ray of the Dead Kennedys relied on the EP-3 preamp to take their sound to previously unreachable heights. And now you can also, with our Epoch Boost.
