The Heliotrope is an “analog bit crusher” of sorts. Since there is no analog to digital conversion happening it isn’t a true bit crusher, hence the name “Harmonic Pixelator”. It works with guitar, bass, keyboards, etc. We designed the pedal to be intuitive and easy to use even though what it is capable of sonically is actually quite complex and varied.

Oil can delay units were manufactured by a company named Tel-Ray who later became better known as Morley. Tel-Ray mostly focused on being the OEM utilizing their oil can technology (Patent US3530227 A), branding units for Gibson (GA-RE4), Fender (Dimension IV), Acoustic, etc. They employed an electro-static storage method where the signal is “recorded” to a spinning disk, a layer of oil (for years rumored to be a mysterious carcinogenic oil) prevented this signal from leaking into the air before a “pickup” moments later played back the signal recorded to the disk. Compared to the counterparts of the day (tape, drum, wire delay machines), their sound was more low fidelity, murky, often with a more consistent musical vibrato that correlated to the spinning disk speed. We like to describe the sound as mysterious. The Catalinbread ADINEKO pedal is an echo, reverb, vibrato pedal that faithfully models the sonic experience of these oil can units.

Super Charged Overdrive (Legacy Edtn)

The Cloak began after unearthing some ancient texts containing some forbidden incantations on how to introduce spectral elements within a decaying echo. Ok, we’re embellishing a bit; but the inspiration came from the land of academia and the acoustics department at Stanford, where a treatise on the optimal shimmer effect was penned a handful of years back. In a similar pursuit of perfection, we’ve drawn inspiration from a combination of research and our own endeavors to craft a truly superb take on shimmer reverb. At its core, the Cloak is a “room” style reverb that sounds amazing on its own, but with a twist of the Shimmer knob, rich, harmonically-laden overtones creep in, emphasizing three different orders of harmonics within the trails. A specially-designed low-pass filter steps in and smooths the harmonics out before they get too out of hand and wreck up the signal path.

Cloak

The Big Muff is probably one of the most sought after, and heavily replicated pedals on the planet. Even though it is still made by the original manufacturer, it’s long and varied history has made it’s way into many other pedal manufacturer’s fold. When we set out to create the Manx Loaghtan fuzz, our goal wasn’t to brush off an obscure build to recreate. Rather than looking back over that pedals heritage, we wanted to try and push it forward. One of the more common traits among fuzzes of that ilk is the tone control. However, we felt that such a tone stack was rather limiting. Often you would follow the sweep looking for the one spot that sounded right. The one spot where it didn’t sound too boomy or constricted and thin. Where the pedal finally finds its harmony. We wanted it to not be a compromise between too bright and too bassy, but also be capable of doing either or both with a nice mid range scoop in order to sound HEAVY for chunky chords. So rather than using the traditional tone control we incorporated the Baxandall.
