In order to achieve our concept of ideal sound, we began by restructuring all of the components in an effects unit based on our expertise and extensive experience cultivated and accumulated over the years, and our innate sense of tone, and ultimately arrived at our Integrated Series which was started as FREE THE TONE’s 15th anniversary project. The first release in this series is a pair of overdrive pedals.

We sought extended dynamic range, brilliant overtones, long sustain, quick but fat tone, and of course, the most important thing, pure and clean overdrive sound. In order to realize all of these things, we thoroughly investigated various electronic circuits and parts and all of the factors related to sound such as magnetic fields and/or resonance. We also employed the best quality materials we could find for the case and knobs. After a few years and many prototypes, we finally completed the STRING SLINGER and FIRE MIST.

SS-1V String Slinger

This is the result of guitarists’ quest for higher expression power not obtainable just from clean tone. The FREE THE TONE GB-1V “GIGS BOSON” has overwhelming expression power that can reproduce the pick angle when the string is plucked and sound changes produced by the touch of the left hand. All of these things are necessary to transform the overtones produced by the strings into sounds and music. The “GIGS BOSON” will provide guitarists with a higher expression ability and new stimuli.

GB-1V Gigs Boson Overdrive

As well as great sound quality and durability, a smooth and musical volume change is required in an ideal volume pedal. The Full-Rotation Belt-Drive system in the Free The Tone “DVL-1 series/ Direct Volume" has been newly developed by identifying problems in conventional volume pedals in order to embody this ideal volume pedal.

Unlike usual mechanisms that use a string to rotate a variable resistor, the Free The Tone’s unique Full-Rotation Belt-Drive system adopts a gear and belt mechanism to drive the variable resistor linearly and link pedal operation directly to volume change. Volume is controlled smoothly and musically with smooth rotation and an optimized volume curve. The belt used in this mechanism is reinforced with wires to provide excellent durability and to prevent elongation or breakage from heavy use or aging.
