The EH Big Muff Pi defined the guitar tones of the 70’s and then re-defined them in the 90’s.  Yet for all its legendary pedigree, the Pi of today is a far cry from the triangle knobs and ram’s heads that came before it.

Originally released in 1974, the D&S Distortion & Sustainer creates the same silky, compressed fuzz that those vintage Muffs are famous for.  Yet where Muffs have a tendency to “blanket” your original guitar tone, the D&S retains more of the original sound and feel of your instrument and amp.

D&S Distortion & Sustainer

The AD999’s Delay tone is pure analog heaven – rich, round and three-dimensional, it reacts to your playing and breathes life into your performance.

The AD999 is loaded with eight custom Bucket Brigade IC’s for 900 milliseconds of warm, organic analog tone.  These BBD’s are clocked extremely low to achieve the longest delay time possible, creating a HUGE delay tone that recalls early 70’s Pink Floyd with stunning accuracy.

AD-999 Analog Delay

In 1994, one Bill Finnegan (and two engineers from MIT) sat down and created the Klon Centaur, one of the most talked-about circuits of all time. While it was at its core an overdrive circuit, it boasted several innovations that put it ahead of the rest of the stuff out there. For one, it included a robust power supply that provided a theoretical 27 volts of headroom from a nine-volt supply. Perhaps more notably, the Centaur thrust the idea of dual-gang potentiometers into the groupthink of pedal development. While these weren’t cutting-edge tech in 1994, very few pedals utilized them. In fact, the Shin-Ei Uni-Vibe is one of the only popular pedals I can remember using one (C100K in fact).

OD820 Overdrive Pro

The Maxon ST-9 Pro+ Super Tube Pedal stakes a big claim for being one of the most sonically customisable overdrive pedals ever invented. The secret behind this incredible functionality and tone lies in the design which was loosely based on the late 70s OD-808, just with some major upgrades.

The Mid Enhance control lets you vary the amount of iconic mid-boost that Maxon overdrives provide, while the Low Boost switch allows a rumbling low-end response with increased saturation thanks to an alternate set of clipping diodes. Add to this, the pedal can operate at either 9V or 18; run at 9V for the classic 808 sound or switch to 18V for increased headroom, improved dynamics, and thicker, chunkier overdriven textures.

EQ’s may not be as sexy as overdrives, but when used properly they can add a wide variety of useful new colors to your existing guitar rig.

The GE601 Graphic Equalizer covers six carefully selected frequency bands over a five octave range with 12 dB of Boost/Cut per band (100, 200, 400 & 800 Hz, 1.6 & 3.2 KHz respectively).  There’s also a Master Level control with 12 dB of overall Boost/Cut.
