The backbone of the Cross Over Drive is four FET transistors designed to capture the response and touch-sensitivity of an amp’s organic overdrive. But making a FET stage behave like a particular tube stage is actually a very complex affair and is not a simple substitute like most other FET-based preamp circuits. Our experience in designing valve amplifiers at MI Audio has seen us obsess over every minute detail of the Cross Over Drive’s circuit from operating points, dynamic range, scaling of clipping thresholds, output impedances, intrinsic capacitances due to the Miller Effect… you get the idea! This obsession has led to an original pedal design like no other that becomes a natural extension of your guitar, amp and playing style.

The most coveted guitar tones are those where the guitar, player and amplifier work as one. Every attack on the guitar string, be it by plectrum or finger pick, legato to down-stroke, neck or bridge pickup –all provide a different tone and feel that traditional overdrive pedals can struggle to capture. This response has been the driving force behind the design of the Cross Over Drive and this attention to detail is what sets it apart from the pack.

Cross Over Drive 

The Pollyanna begins our move away from the comfort of straight laced overdrive and distortion pedals. The basic idea of this pedal was to combine the most common types of dirt and nasty analogue octave effects in one unit. With this pedal if you are after a smooth polished polyphonic digitised octave then forget about it and look elsewhere. One thing to keep in mind with this pedal is you cannot just play like ‘normal' and turn the pedal on. This is a pedal which you need to work with and meet half way to get the best result.

Blues Pro

The Lo-Fi delay is a unique take on the analog/digital hybrid design. Built around the PT2399 chip, the secret to its tone starts with the filtering derived from the cherished analog delays of yesteryear. The Hi/Lo switch gives you access to two types of filter cutoffs for a ‘natural’ analog sound, or a darker and warmer echo tone.

Speaking of creativity, one thing which really sets the Lo-Fi apart from its peers is the incredible modulation section. Not only are the standard Rate and Depth controls easily accessible on the outside of the pedal, but a waveform switch allows you to choose from a triangle or square wave modulation. Choose triangle wave with low Rate and Depth settings for a convincing faux tape echo, or a square wave with a higher Depth for a glitchy 8-bit computer effect. Warbles and stepped, pseudo pitch-shifting are the Lo-Fi‘s speciality.
