Little Miss Sunshine

The Skreddy Pedals™ BC239 FUZZ is a throwback to the late "rams head" era.  The BC239 transistor will tend to render less bass, resulting in a more biting and articulate muff tone.  Add to that the fact that the later rams heads employed plastic film capacitors instead of the softer, grittier tone of ceramic discs used in the triangle knobs and earlier rams heads, and you get a clear, cutting top end.  You'll hear every detail of its velvety distortion.  I'm preserving articulation by keeping the gain in check just enough and not letting it get too mushy or syrupy.  Nice and hot with ample harmonics and of course great sustain.  Rather than a round, fluty tone, you'll get a meaty grind even in your high notes.

The Skreddy Pedals™ BC109 FUZZ is made from silicon transistors for power and temperature stability, but it's darkened so you can get germanium-ish effects out of it too.

The 2 transistors are piggybacked for better tone (smoother, lower noise than single transistors), giving this circuit 4 transistors total.

BC109 Fuzz

Specifically tuned to the sound of a block-buster 1979 album (okay, it's "The Wall") and emulates the "magic" 70's era fuzz pedal that was somehow clear and articulate on high notes while still fuzzy and aggressive on low notes, without excessive low-end muffiness or high-end fizz.  The mids are scooped just enough to keep it from sounding congested, the lows are rolled off just enough to keep it from sounding wooly or boomy, and the highs are gentle, present, and well balanced.

Its clarity will encourage you to dig in and express yourself; it's not an overwhelming "wall of fuzz" type effect.

Based on the "triangle-knob" circa 1971 4-transistor fuzz, but I've changed the input capacitor to a more saturated-sounding type like the circa 1973 'rams head' version fuzz. From there, I've tightened up the bass and smoothed out the highs and eliminated the mid scoop. So instead of a raging wall of fuzz, you get a more focused and amp-like tone, without having to stack with eq's and/or other overdrive pedals to smooth things out or bring up the midrange.
