Die Dynamik spielt in der Musik eine wichtige Rolle. Sie trägt dazu bei, Emotionen zu vermitteln, ob es sich nun um ein sinnliches Blues-Solo oder das unerbittliche Galoppieren von ungebremstem Metal handelt. Aber unkontrollierte Dynamik kann all deine besten Absichten in so viel, nun ja, Brei verwandeln. An dieser Stelle kommt die Kompression ins Spiel, die laute Klänge abschwächt und niedrige Signalpegel anhebt, um alles einheitlicher zu gestalten. Die Hauptaufgabe eines Kompressors besteht also darin, jeder Note die gleiche Lautstärke zu verleihen.

Ist dir schon einmal aufgefallen, dass einige Saiten deiner Gitarre oder deines Basses lauter klingen als andere? Das liegt zum Teil an der Physik. Saiten mit geringerer Masse geben einfach nicht so viel Lautstärke ab wie schwerere Saiten. Richtig eingesetzt, sorgt ein Kompressor dafür, dass alle Saiten die gleiche Lautstärke haben. Kompressoren eignen sich auch hervorragend für Slap-Bassisten, denn sie sorgen dafür, dass Daumenschläge, Saitenzüge und gedämpfte Noten alle gleich laut sind, was einen extrem perkussiven Effekt ergibt.

Dynamics play an important role in music. They help to convey emotion, whether it’s a sultry blues solo or the unrelenting gallop of unfettered metal. But uncontrolled dynamics can take all your best intentions and turn them into so much, well…mush. That’s where compression comes in, softening loud sounds and boosting low signal levels to keep everything more uniform. So, a compressor’s main job is to make every note the same volume.

Ever notice how some strings on your guitar or bass sound louder than others? This is partly due to physics. Strings with lower mass just don’t put out as much volume as the heavier ones. When used properly, a compressor makes all of the strings the same volume. Compressors are also great for slap-style bass players, making thumb slaps, string pulls and muted notes all the same volume, for an extremely percussive effect.

Ein Phaser filtert ein Signal, indem er eine Reihe von Höhen und Tiefen in einem bestimmten Frequenzspektrum erzeugt. Dabei werden die Höhen und Tiefen gegen das Original moduliert, so dass sie sich im Laufe der Zeit verändern und einen Sweeping-Effekt erzeugen. Die Mathematik ist etwas kompliziert, aber im Klartext bedeutet das, dass der SP400 Deine Gitarre so klingen lassen kann, als würde ein Düsenflugzeug über Dich hinwegfliegen.

A phaser filters a signal by creating a series of peaks and troughs in a specific frequency spectrum. The position of the peaks and troughs is modulated against the original, so they vary over time creating a sweeping effect. The math is a bit complex, but in plain terms, the SP400 can make your guitar sound something similar to a jet airplane flying overhead.
