The Nashville Overdrive is the green side of the Protein Dual Overdrive as a stand-alone unit. While this circuit originated from the classic ODR-1 circuit, this is not an ODR-1 clone. Browne Amps lowered the gain to make it useable throughout the entire sweep of the knob, adjusted the EQ section to make it less scooped, restored some of the mids and tightened up the low end (to add just the right amount of low mid “beef” back into your tone without becoming muddy). They also redesigned the power section to make it feel more like a tube amp that is working hard! This is a unique overdrive all on its own.

The T4 is our take on the classic 4 transistor fuzz, similar to the circuits used in the big muff and countless other variants. What sets the T4 apart is a flattened EQ curve that brings the mids back in and helps cut through the mix. It also has been softened in the gain department and is smoother than other versions of this circuit. It is a beautiful sounding fuzz while still being able to get those ferocious tones that endeared the original designs. If you’ve never dived into the world of fuzz, this could be your gateway drug. Unlike many classic fuzz circuits, the T4 can be placed anywhere in your signal chain (even after buffers)!

T4 Fuzz

The Gritador is our version of the classic, the version that our resident genius in chief has tweaked to perfection. He dialed in the midrange to be more nuanced. You still get that classic midrange bump but without some of the inherent nasaliness that can sometimes plague this circuit. He altered the clipping to be slightly less symmetrical. He also tweaked the low end to give it more fullness while still maintaining a tight and punchy low end. 

Why Gritador? Because it means “screamer” in Portuguese.

The Protein 2 in 1 overdrive is the result of a collaboration between David Brown and guitarist / producer Adam Sniegowski.

Adam came to Dave wanting to create a dual overdrive that would sound great with any backline he encountered.

After years on the road and in the studio using backline amps that could be very inconsistent, he'd had enough.

Adam and David started with 2 drives they loved and stacked well together

The Protein is based around modified versions of two well-respected drive pedal circuits: the ‘Blue’ side is based on a 1990’s Marshall Bluesbreaker but has a tweaked tone control and extra output, while the ‘Green’ side takes its cue from that Nashville session favourite the Nobels ODR-1.
