Mike Matthews, the founder of Electro-Harmonix, is a colorful figure. The hippie movement and Jimi Hendrix's evolution of the electric guitar served as a catalyst for him to develop the Big Muff distortion unit, which is still popular today. After phenomenal growth of his company in the golden age of rock'n'roll, the 1970s, disillusionment followed in the early 1980s - and finally bankruptcy.
