Mit dem AfterShock Bass Distortion wird es richtig schmutzig. Für sich alleine und direkt aus der Schachtel hat es bereits drei massive Bass Distortion Engines mit enormer tonaler Bandbreite. Das Spektrum reicht hier von Low-End Crunch über natürlichen subtilen röhren-artigen Overdrive bis zu In-Your-Face germanium-style Fuzz. Angeschlossen ans Smartphone hat man mit der Source Audio Neuro App Zugriff auf weitere Parameter und eine Bibliothek aus über 40 Overdrive, Distortion und Fuzz Algorithmen. MIDI-Kompatibilität via separat erhältlichem Source Audio Neuro Hub und Stereo In- und Outputs runden das Paket ab und machen diesen Bass Drive zu einem der flexibelsten am Markt.

With the AfterShock Bass Distortion it gets really dirty. By itself and directly out of the box, it comes with three massive bass distortion engines of enormous tonal range. Their spectrum spans from low-end crunch to subtle tube-like overdrive to in-your-face germanium style Fuzz. Plugged to a smartphone one gets access to a myriad of further parameters and a library of over 40 overdrive, distortion and Fuzz algorithms via the Neuro App. MIDI compatibility via the separately available Source Audio Neuro Hub as well as stereo in- and outputs make this one of the most flexible bass drives on the market.

Das Source Audio SoleMan ist ein vielseitiger und umfassendt konfigurierbarer Hardware- und Software-MIDI-Controller, im praktischen, stabilen und kompakten Fußpedalformat. Einerseits stellt das SoleMan die perfekte Ergänzung jeder umfangreichen Source-Audio-Effektpedalsammlung dar, andererseits lassen sich mit dem SoleMan auch andere MIDI-Setups hoch effizient steuern. Außerdem ermöglicht die Source-Audio-Software eine nahtlose Einbindung des Nemesis Delay. 

Das SoleMan verfügt über zwei Hardware-MIDI-Ausgänge, die mit jeder Hardware kommunizieren können, die nach dem MIDI-Standard arbeitet. Ebenso verfügt das SoleMan über ein USB-MIDI-Interface, um MIDI-kompatible Software und DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations), virtuelle Instrumente, Synths oder VST-Plug-ins steuern zu können. Mit den vier Fußschaltern lässt sich bequem durch Scenes scrollen, durch Set-Listen steppen, es lassen sich individuelle MIDI-Befehle abschicken, oder nach komplett eigenen Wünschen anpassbare MIDI-Makros auslösen. Ein Anschluss für zwei optionale, externe Fußschalter sorgt für noch mehr Komfort bei der MIDI-Navigation.

Der Expression-Eingang ermöglicht es dem Benutzer, ein optionales, passives Expression-Pedal auf äußerst flexible Weise zum Erzeugen von Continuous-Controller Befehlen (CC) einzusetzen. Auf diese Weise ermöglicht das SoleMan dem Nutzer eine expressive Kontrolle von MIDI-kompatiblen Geräten und Software. Das kontraststarke LC-Display ist sowohl auf dunklen Bühnen, als auch in direktem Sonnenlicht optimal ablesbar. Es zeigt alle wichtigen Infos zu Scenes, Set-Listen, MIDI-Konfiguration, Expression-Ausgängen und weiteren Modi an.

The SoleMan is a versatile, highly configurable hardware and software MIDI controller housed in a durable, compact package.  It is the perfect addition to any Source Audio centric pedal collection, but also it is highly effective in other setups. Source Audio supplies configuration software for seamless use with the Nemesis Delay pedal. 

It has two hardware MIDI outputs, which allow it to interface with any hardware that adheres to the MIDI standard. It also has a USB-MIDI interface for direct control of MIDI-compatible software such as DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations), virtual instruments, synths, or VST plugins. The four footswitches scroll through scenes, launch individual MIDI messages, step through set lists, or trigger highly customizable MIDI macros. An external switch port allows for two additional footswitches to make navigation more convenient.

The expression input allows for the use a passive expression pedal to generate MIDI continuous controller messages in a very flexible manner, providing direct expressive control over MIDI-compatible devices and software.  The SoleMan’s high-contrast LCD is visible in light conditions ranging from a dark stage to direct sunlight. It displays relevant information about scenes, set lists, MIDI configuration, expression outputs, and other modes.

Though small in size, the L.A. Lady Overdrive houses three distinct drive circuits for a truckload of warm and powerful crunch. Classic mode uncompromisingly delivers the coveted “Marshall in a box” tone, providing everything from fat and subtle rhythm sounds to screaming lead tones. Choose Smooth mode for a full-bodied and highly saturated drive reminiscent of Mesa Boogie’s finest. Crunch mode supplies a sublimely warm and chunky tone with drive levels well above most pre-amps.

Every pedal in the One Series line is compatible with the Neuro Mobile App (a free download for iOS or Android). Link the L.A. Lady to the Neuro App and access its extended equalization capabilities as well as Source Audio’s free library of bonus overdrive, fuzz, and distortion algorithms – each algorithm can be downloaded directly to the pedal. Plus, every One Series pedal is fully MIDI compatible when coupled with the Neuro Hub (formerly Soundblox Hub), providing the power to save up to 128 different presets.

L.A. Lady Overdrive

Put simply: a multi-band processor. In detail, this means that frequency bands are split up here and can be tackled separately. That doesn't sound exciting at first, but the Source Audio Ultrawave has 37 splitting options. You can arrange the bands in different ways and separate pairs of 2 to 10. The result is a huge number of potential sounds with their own character. The signal chain with a classic touch allows compressors and expanders to be packed before or after the distorted signal and modulated afterwards. Here you have the option of using an LFO to control what works and, in addition to flanger and phaser-like sounds, you can also create tremolo sounds, for example. The frequency bands are correspondingly flexible. In addition, you can use the morphing function to create completely wacky sounds. Two parameter constellations can be superimposed here and controlled via LFO or envelope. Typical Source Audio –thinking outside the box. 

A few words about the connections - stereo outputs make sense, but two instrument inputs don't make the whole thing unexciting - being able to manipulate guitar and synth at the same time from the same LFO. I don't think that's available in pedal format. But the routing options don't stop there, the individual source audio devices can be merged together. If you use one input to send commands from the Neuro app, you can let them travel through the entire Source Audio signal chain. As already mentioned: EXP connection, MIDI and USB are included here. Well - if you know the C4 or the Nemesis, you know about the Neuro Editor. In my opinion, the coolest and clearest editor of this kind ever.
Incidentally, calibrating Source Audio with an app or editor is surprisingly easy and a lot of fun. One of the few in-house editors that justifies having a laptop next to the pedalboard. This is perhaps also the biggest problem of the Source Audio brand: despite all efforts to keep it simple, the applications are heavily dependent on the neuro app or the editor. And many musicians still like to avoid both.
