Mein persönlicher Favorit unter den von mir hergestellten Big-Muff-Repliken.  Der 73 Ram's Head ist dafür bekannt, dass er weicher als der 66 Triangle ist, aber mehr Schmutz als der Black Russian hat.  Was den 73 Ram's Head wirklich auszeichnet, ist das unglaubliche Sustain, das man mit diesem Pedal erhält.  Es wurde für Gitarristen entwickelt, die wollen, dass ihre Gitarre wie ein Kolibri singt, mit einem süßen, geigenähnlichen Sustain-Sound.  Mit dem Sustain-Regler kann man ein langes Sustain mit einem Hauch von harmonischer Verzerrung optimieren.  Hendrix verließ sich auf diesen Big Muff für seinen sanften, weichen Electric Lady-Sound.

My personal favorite of the Big Muff replicas I produce.  The 73 Ram's head is known to be smoother than the 66 Triangle but with more dirt then the Black Russian.  The thing that really sets the 73 Ram's Head apart is the incredible sustain you get with this pedal.  It is designed for the guitarist who wants his ax to sing like a hummingbird, with sweet violin-like sustaining sound.  The sustain control allows you to optimize long sustain with a hint of harmonic distortion.  Hendrix relied on this Big Muff for his smooth, mellow, Electric Lady sound.

73 Ram’s Head

Diese Black Russian Reproduktion ist weicher als sein amerikanischer Cousin und hat etwas weniger Sustain, behält aber den unverwechselbaren Big Muff Sound. Dieses Pedal hat tonnenweise Bässe und funktioniert gut mit Gitarre oder Bass.

Ein Schalter bietet drei Optionen für den Mittenbereich: Scooped (Standard) sowie flache und verstärkte Mitten.

This Black Russian reproduction is smoother than its American made cousin and has slightly less sustain, yet retains that unmistakable Big Muff sound. This pedal has tons of low end and will work well with guitar or bass.

A switch has been added for three mid-range options scooped (stock) as well as flat and boosted mids.

Die Violet Ram's Head Version des Big Muff wurde Anfang bis Mitte der 70er Jahre produziert und wurde nach der violetten Tinte benannt, mit der die Grafiken auf der Box und das „Ram's Head“ Logo gedruckt wurden.

Von den klassischen Big Muff-Versionen, die ich ausprobiert habe, ist der Violet Ram's Head wahrscheinlich die am einzigartigsten klingende der Varianten.  Es ist ein High-Gain-Pedal wie die frühen Triangles und 73 Ram's Heads, aber sein Fuzz hat eine sanftere Textur, die mich an einige der in Russland hergestellten Modelle erinnert.  Was diese Version für mich wirklich einzigartig macht, ist das höhere Voicing dieses Pedals.  Die häufigsten Beschwerden, die ich von Leuten höre, die keine großen Muff-Fans sind (abgesehen von den geschwungenen Mitten), sind, dass sie zu bassig und dröhnend sind.  Der Violet Ram's Head könnte mit seinem weichen, satten Fuzz und der helleren Intonation die perfekte Lösung für diese Leute sein.

While the early version of the Big Muff all used the same circuit schematic several different combinations of parts values were used giving distinct flavors to the different versions of the early BMP’s.  The Violet Ram’s Head version of the Big Muff were produced in the early to mid-70’s and were named for the violet ink used to print the graphics on the box and the “Ram’s Head” logo.

Of the classic Big Muff version I have tried the Violet Ram’s Head is probably the most unique sounding of the variations.  It is a very high gain pedal like the early Triangles and 73 Ram’s Heads but its fuzz has a smoother texture that reminds me of some of the Russian made models.  What makes this version really unique to me is the higher voicing of this pedal.  The most common complaints I hear from people who are not big Muff fans (besides the scooped mids) is that they are too bassy and booming.  The Violet Ram’s Head may be the perfect fit for those people with it smooth saturated fuzz and brighter voicing.
